That focal range is pretty close to ideal for the kind of low-light environmental/casual portraits I like to take. I enjoy capturing people in unguarded moments, especially where I work. And that often requires that I stand off at a distance to keep people from noticing me and going into auto-pose mode -- something that forever grinds on my last nerve. I also take lots of shots at small events (small weddings, parties, meet-and-greets, etc.) where I like to maintain some distance in order to be unobtrusive. I figure with the 77/1.8 (or a reasonable alternative) on my K-5 and my F 50/1.7 on my K20D, I'd be well set up for that kind of shooting.

The focal length (77 to 85 mm, APS-C 116 to 128 mm) appears to be a
bit odd. Where would one use this focal length on an APS-C camera? I
understand the 50 mm serves well as a Portrait Lens at 75 mm on an
APS-C Body.
And I don't cover indoor sports, where these lenses may be useful -
based on shorter distances and lower lighting perhaps?
The Pentax version is very pricey too for amateur use.
I have read rave reviews on the Samyang 85/1.4, but put off buying one
which was on sale pre-owned at a pretty attractive price.
