I have had moderate luck with cheap chinese radio  triggers from 
either dealextreme or linkdelight.  About $10 per end.  You have to 
use conventional AAA batteries because the hybrids have lower voltage
and less range.

Almost all strobes have a "dumb slave" optical mode.  The ones that don't
can be triggered with a dumb optical trigger, about $5-$10 online.
