Yah, well, cynic that I am, I doubt the conventional wisdom about the M28/2.8 too. That I will have personal knowledge of as soon as I get a roll of film developed and put a loupe to the negative.
I would be more ready to believe that you had a defective lens, than that Sigma designed a worthless one. I can not believe that they are not adequate for 4x6 snap shots, and would be surprised if they didn't do nice 8x10s.
