I don't hate gmail. I just already have more Google in my life than I
want, and I'm not going to add any more.

I'm not looking for web hosting.

I just want a reliable, non-intrusive email service provider that I can
access using Thunderbird. I don't mind paying for service, but I'm
getting really tired of paying for service and not getting it.

I'm fed up with Time Warner, and I'm fed up with Yahoo.

I will be following up pair.com and earthlink tomorrow. Both had actual
telephone numbers on their websites so that I can talk to someone there
to find out if they have available what I want.

Ah, sorry John. I didn't realize how much you hate gmail. I wasn't
trying to yank your chain. (Thanks for the heads up, Bruce!) John, I
buy web hosting space from godaddy.com. I use this to post the photos
I share on PDML. With this account, I get an email address, which I
also use for my PDML subscription--and other things as well. I find
the annual fee affordable, though I can't remember what it is as I
write this, and I'm not at home to look it up.

Perhaps something like this might be an option for you.

Cheers, Christine

I'm not sure if you are knowingly yanking John's chain with that
suggestion Christine, but John: before you give her your speech
about how much you detest letting any more of Google into your
life, you should stop and consider this choice.

You can have either or both POP3 and IMAP. (I use both.) And it can
be set up to scrape other mailservers via POP for you so you get
all your mail in one place.

It's reliable. I've been using it as my (almost) sole email server
for over seven years and the amount of time I could not access my
mail in that period is maybe an hour.

It has competent tech support staff. I wouldn't give you odds that
you could ever contact any of them, but you never need to because
they treat it seriously and run it like an actual business with
paying customers. Indeed they have paying levels of support (Google
Apps) so the free users benefit.

They provide infinitely more service than you pay for since you
don't pay anything for it. :-)

And you don't need to worry about ads and such if you only access
it through IMAP or POP3. You'll just get your mail; no hassles.

I think I can speak for all PDMLers when I say that I'd really like
to see you have reliable email for once.

I need a new email service provider.

Time Warner's servers have been down for two days now and they
have no idea if they are ever going to fix the problem.

We've already been over the problems inherent in using Yahoo
for email especially with a mailing list.

I want POP3 or IMAP. I want a service that is reliable. And I
want a service that has a competent tech support staff in case
I actually need to contact them about a problem.

And more than anything else, I want a service provider that
will actually provide the service I pay for.
