Interesting point. My take on this was that once they had you on
subscription (and presumably enough uptake to remove any future stand alone
option) that versions become meaningless. You get the current software with
the monthly subscription, so you can call it just PS and LR.

Unless of course, they wish to divide it at some point, and give the latest
updates immediately, only to those who pay a 'premium monthly charge'.

Here's a bit more then from above. When you bought a stand-alone item, you
paid a one off charge for the software and expect to get some updates in the
life of that product, before the launch of a new version. In a subscription
only product, you sign up and you know the costs for a limited period, but
have no guarantee of long term costs or what it may later give (or not give)
you.

I'm also aware, to give this some balance, that I'm of an age where I expect
to know what I'm getting and have some control of costs and storage. I
imagine that people in their early 20s may have a very different take on
this and feel my approach to software use and storage is old fashioned. I
simply don't possess the blind faith that a younger generation often does in
modern technology. I consider myself to be in the 'told you so' generation'!
