Mark,

While, yes, it would be pointless trying to get pentax.com,
but I am not quite sure that Ricoh/Pentax has rights to all and any derivatives of the word "pentax". I suspect, it is a rather gray legal area, especially, if the owner would not be using it for commercial or derogative purposes with respect to the trademark.

So, if it were only $15-20, as for a regular domain registration, I would've bought it, just to see what happens... Paying $69.99+ (or more likely 100+) is already getting too much for this type of fun.
I am not D.T.

Cheers,

Igor

Dan, have you tried to follow the link to buy it?
It is not straight forward. You cannot just "buy" that domain. You can
submit an offer to the owner (according to GoDaddy), and that would cost
$69+commission fee (whatever it is). ... And maybe some more..

It would also be rather pointless to buy it. Since Ricoh owns the
trademark on "Pentax" they could get the domain back through the
courts if they so desired. Of course, that would cost them some money,
but not a lot in the grand scheme of things.
