I recall from the MZ-30 that the command dial necessitated the
inclusion of yet another button or series of buttons so the dial
knew which function to control.
So, instead of having added one superfluous control, you have
added another control to control the control that is already
superfluous.
Hence even more things to go wrong, and more holes in the camera
body affecting the overall integrity of the equipment.
All this because someone decided that since Canon put all the
controls on the body when they came out with the EOS system,
that it must be a good thing.
Speaking personally, one of the things I detest about the EOS
cameras is the lack of an aperture ring.
If an aperture ring is hard to use on a tripod, or in some other
application, the correct repair would be to fix that interface,
not to add another one.
