I was just lurking and do not wish to get dragged into any heavy discussion
:-) but I thought everybody knew this. This was discussed a few years ago
in PDML to a great extent as well. I personally saw a post by a Pentax
manufacturing person in certain technical discussion, but I did not think it
was any secret. Pentax did have models with AV wheel and they did not wish
to say that it was not accurate. Let's just say that AV wheel control is
less accurate than the aperture ring. Please do not balk at me as I never
checked or understood where this error comes from (electro-mechanical but
perhaps Pl knows better), but I remember accepting it true.

It's all over the place. Some of the Japanese camera magazines are
extremely technical and there are all kinds of technical analysis there.
But Canon's focusing algorithm is well known. But you can't tell the
difference through their viewfinder anyway :-). Maybe I will dig out this
info when I have time.
