Ah, that's the source of the confusion.  Yes, Pentax's entry-level bodies
add an extra button that you have to hold down so the control dial knows
what it's changing when you use it.  I was talking about bodies which do
not require you to do that: when you're in manual mode, the dial (which
has to exist anyway) is the only thing you need to use to change
apertures.  For the entry-level bodies I agree with you that it's another
button added, though people who value simple user interfaces would hardly
be using an entry-level AF body on manual mode.
