Things are heating up in Ruby-land and lots of us are starting to get contracting gigs. Since several people here on the list do contracting, I thought I'd ask a few questions...
I'm getting set up to do some Ruby contracting. Just signed an NDA and I'm supposed to start Friday (telecommuting - never done that before ;-) I've contracted before at Intel, but when you contract at Intel you're really shielded by a contracting company that takes out the taxes, etc. In this case I'm on my own. I notice that part of the agreement I just signed says: "The Contractor will carry liability insurance". So, where does one find this kind of software engineering liability insurance? Would it suffice to have an umbrella policy? As far as taxes go, I assume you've got to send them in quarterly and also pay a big chunk (15%) for SS, right? Also, what kinds of tools to people usually use to track their time? ( I recall that at one of our meeting, I think it was at the Urban Grind in the Pearl, that someone showed a tool they had developed for this) Phil _______________________________________________ PDXRuby mailing list [email protected] IRC: #pdx.rb on irc.freenode.net http://lists.pdxruby.org/mailman/listinfo/pdxruby
