I talked to our rep about buying an used package and they told me that it would be my own risk because I wouldn't get the license transfered to me and my copy wouldn't be legal. They said that Altium has never had policy to transfer licenses and they didn't sell used packages.
Houston, we have a problem.
I've bought and sold something like ten licenses. All with the cooperation of Protel/Altium. License transfer has been routine. So either someone (1) does not know what they are talking about, or (2) is lying. I find the latter extremely unlikely.
Yes, Altium has never sold used packages. The very concept is actually silly. But users might sell their *licenses*. Or give them away, for that matter.
The license agreement used to explicitly allow it. Then Altium added a condition that the transfer be approved. Not that it is forbidden, nor that they may arbitrarily refuse to approve it. Just a requirement, they assured us, to insure against fraudulent transfer.
Mr. Selfridge has responded as well with correct information, and with the correct contact person for transfer information.
