I've just treated myself to the bits to build a 64-bit (Athlon X2)
system. One of the main reasons for picking the hardware was for
virtualisation support (ie it should mean that I can install Xen and get
Windows running direct on the CPU as a virtual process without Windows
knowing it's been virtualised).

Until the bits arrive next week, I have time to decide what OS config
I'm going to go with. So, given that I like and plan to stick with
Ubuntu as the distro:

1) What virtual environments should I consider? I know VMWare Server but
I don't know if the free version offers anything to support the 64-bit
virtualisation (it does support the Intel VT version, but I couldn't
justify spending the money on the Intel alternatives). I'm sure Xen
supports AMD-V but have no idea how well that sits with Ubuntu these
days, and I know that Ubuntu use another virtual technology which I have
no experience of.
2) Should I go for a 64-bit O/S or a 32-bit O/S?
