I posted a maroon Gem for sale a couple of weeks ago. Several of the parties interested in the machinequestioned whether it was worth more or less becauseboth the horn and machine have original maroon overoriginal black paint. I always thought the Gem shouldbe worth a little more because of the abnormality. Hi, I agree it would be worth more because of the abnormality. Edison made the C and D at the same time and a machine that started out as a C and ended up as a D would have more appeal to me, was this the one with the earlier style of Gem Decal that says GEM? after being silent for awhile, I thought I would add my 2cents. Sorry Jerry. If I found a Gem/Fireside horn that was painted red over black, I would value it less. I would assume it was not original and was a later repaint. Even the upside down sticker, true it may have been a factory defect, but every time I looked at it it would bug me, and would probably pay less for the machine. Especially on an edison machine with an upside down decal. The Vernis Martin is an exception, I wouldnt care if the decal was damaged or anything, they are so rare and beautiful it wouldnt make a difference.
