Those of you who are old enough to remember the days before the Bell system
was broken up, will recall that just mentioning the name "The Phone Company"
evoked instant images of a huge, uncaring corporate monster with WAY more
money than it needed and absolutely NO incentive to pay attention to its
customers because it had a MONOPOLY. Well, the government put an end to the
hegemony
of "The Phone Company," and the smaller bits had to start instituting real
customer service. Today, we have PayPal -- the new "Phone Company"--- WAY more
successful than it has any right to be based on its poor record of customer
service, and with A LOT of people by the throat.
