Hi, In my experience there are 2 ways of installing php, conpile or download a package for your OS that already been built.
On windows, you can build php or you download a msi/exe file and use that to install it Linux, you can use yum or apt-get to install php or you can compile it. Regarding macs, I'm not too sure on that one, all I know that you can get php on it. I know that this won't be much help but just sharing my experience with getting php installed.
