Lanorna, I just wrote the doctor today that I read the article on for the B-12. I bought the manuel from the Pituitary Network Association. Its called THE PITUITARY PATIENT RESOURCE GUIDE. I talked to the CEO and I think he is a jerk but I love this manuel. I had gotten alot of my information there. I just got my computer in December. This article is written from Allison Purtell,M.D. He is a rheumatology doctor I think. He writes that the vitamin B-12 is not absorbed adequately in hypothyroidism. The serum levels of vitamin B12 were very low Giving B12too, also adds to the full relief of symptoms. He says people with rheumatoid arthritis, systeric lupus erythematosus and fibromyalgia improved by the mere re-introduction of the thyroid hormone that was missing. Also for patients with MS inprove.
He says what does this have to do with the pituitary? Plenty.
When thyroid hormone levels are low, the pituitary emits high levels of T.H.S. in order to evoke more thyroid hormoe production. Also the pituitary emits high levels of prolactin, in response to low circulating thyroid hormone levels. With the increaseed output of two pituitary hormone s, T.S.GH. and prolactin, the pituitary is enlarged.
The pituitary emits many hormones, and there are many reasons for the benign tumors(adenomas) to be present.
However, the prevalence of hypothyroidism is very high, as is the resultant pituitary enlargement due to the reflex increased output of T.S.H. and prolactin.
It also says B12 is poorly absorbed due to the generalized swelling which includes the g.i. ract.
I talked to my cardolist about this because I had an appointment with him. He recommende I take one injection a week for a month and onced a month thereafter. I went to my primary doctor and ask him if he would start them and he did but I could tell he thinks I am crazy. The next visit to my endo I told him what I was doing and he said I didn't need it because of my blood levels, but he disagreed giveing me anything for a racing heart beat, it took 7 months after surgery and going the my cardolist and he put me on Atenolol and it worked.
I have been on the B12 for 5 months now and it seems like it is just now starting to help. I wrote this doctor just to see if I could take it more than onced a month.
I am going next week for a Growth Hormone stimulation test, I'm wondering if that is why I have had the racing heart beat. Boy do these hormones throw you off. I know this is long but I just wanted you to know some of what this doctors says. I think you need to be on injections though. I now take them at home and its not to bad. The nurse did not do a very good job expaining how to give it so I went to the health department and the nurse there showed me how to give them better. Lawana
