No, not typically pituitary enlargements, but the enlargement of the sella can indicate a pituitary tumor. That is why magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is preferred over CAT scans for imaging the pituitary. The CAT scan is good a picking up cystic lesions, but the MRI can pick up the shadows on the surface of the gland, and can pick up a lesion as small as 3 mm. My radiologist first missed my pituitary tumor (microadenoma - under 1 cm). But, I was told to drop my films off at neurosurgery to have the surgeon look at the films. His office called me and asked me to set up an appt, he wanted to see me. He pointed the tumor right out to me, right on the films. I have a fullness to my pituitary too, but the doctor said it was normal, being that I was female. He walked me through my scans... pretty neat stuff. Try not to worry about the enlargement itself. A full endocrine work up needs to happen, then you will know where to go from there. Got any of those relaxation tapes? Deep breath in... hold... clear mind... exhale... peace flow through your body... let your mind wander.... try not to worry. Hugs Minnie |
