Hi, Laura-Ann, Yep, some of those sources suggest that the prime reason for
Phantosmia is a tumor in the skull. Several of us feel that these aren't really
"phantom smells," but actual ones that we're more sensitive to. Whether real or
imaginary, most of them are unplesant stinks. ------------------ Periods? Don't
know anything about that, but I can tell you about your other strange
punctuation -- Our Assistant Manager charlieoops took her screen
name from the occurence of those weird codes in her every message posted. I
Googled the phrase, and found an answer from a Russian net-head. He traced it
to text composed in Microsoft Word or another word processor. When pasted into
the Pit Chat reply box, hidden code between paragraphs starts
to clutter the message board. Oops! ------------------ Besides Dr. Hoffman's
excellent sites, there have been several other lengthy discussions of Phantom
Smells around the web. Migraine sufferers experience it, including 4 pp here;
MedHelp has 53 posts and a journal; and Unexplained Mysteries.com has a
two-page thread including this comment: "i believe a persons spirit can hold
their scent." Numerous blogs give first-person accounts of it. Speaking of
blogs, I'll check out yours, when I have more time. Nice pictures, the food
especially!.   Willard
