I've tried to make this clear enough that it could go into a FAQ... does
anyone want to put it into one?

For Windows Plucker Desktop users:
To have Plucker install docs direct to a card...

Four tasks:
1) Discover your HotSync 'magic number'
2) Make a registry stub to tell HotSync to 'wake up' your card install
directory
3) Set Plucker Desktop to install created docs to this directory
4) Set Plucker Desktop to run the registry stub

1) Discover your HotSync 'magic number'
Use the Palm Install Tool to set something (anything) to be installed to the
card at the next hotsync
Click START | Run and type "regedit"
Navigate to:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop\HotSync Manager] and
look for a value like Install66666. The number in place of 66666 is your
magic number.

2) Make a registry stub to tell HotSync to 'wake up' your card install
directory
Make a text file (in Notepad) like this, and call it HotSync.reg (replace
66666 with your magic number, discovered above).
----
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop\HotSync Manager]
"Install666666"=dword:00000005
----
Save this file wherever you want to (I put it in C:\Program
Files\Plucker\plucker_desktop\Custom\HotSync.reg)

3) Set Plucker Desktop to install created docs to your card install
directory
In Plucker Desktop:
In the properties for the Channel you want installed to your card select the
Destination tab
Click "Add output directory..."
Navigate to your Palm install directory (C:\Program Files\Palm\<Your
User>\CardInst\Slot-SD, or something like this - hunt around for the file
you set up to install to your card in step (1) above... wherever it is is
the directory you want)
Optionally also set up your default channel to install to this directory
(Options | Set default configuration for new channels...)

4) Set Plucker Desktop to run the registry stub after creating your doc
In Plucker Desktop:
Options | Preferences...
Spidering tab
Check "Execute command after spidering a group of channels"
(this could be set up for channels individually if you don't want
everything to install to the card)
Enter "regedit /s "C:\Program
Files\Plucker\plucker_desktop\Custom\HotSync.reg"
(or the path to *your* copy of HotSync.reg from (2) above)

If this stops working there is an excellent mailing list you can join (find
it at www.plkr.org)
