what prevents you from using said cd to mount/fix jijo's disks which were
created with redhat6.2? can't we do that as long as they support the same
reiserfs version?

See? If you used Mandrake 7.1, you can boot of CD-1, and type 'rescue', and
you'll be shoved into a rescue environment which has the correct tools to
fix
resier/ext2 filesystems... That's one less thing to worry about... \8)
