Erhm?! MMS is *Multimedia* Messaging Service, through which you can
send rich media such as graphic images and ringtones. In contrast, SMS
allows only text.

see why you would rather send a 160 - 480char SMS to email while MMS can
send 1000 chars + attachment. doing the reverse is also readily supported by
telcos.

I can think of a few situations, and have already done it at least
once, some seven years ago. I was on the road and needed to send an
urgent message to someone in Cebu. I knew that if she was at her desk,
she'd have her email client open, and would be able to receive my
message. OTOH, I didn't have to receive any reply and would not likely
be able to anyway because my contact in Cebu didn't have a cell phone.
Now that think about it, she could've replied through my pager but it
really doesn't matter anymore :)
