MMS is just an email encasulated in MMS headers, attachments such mobiles contents are handled the basically as multipart message attachment like in emails; therefore technically you can also call your email as MMS.

So im scratching me head why you would send an SMS and need to build another appliance to route it to email rather than use MMS directly (except ofourse you phone doesnt have MMS capability then its time to buy a new phone). Btw to clarify things, you can send an MMS directly to an email address and the receiver can reply directly from email back to the sender as MMS (the sender address will be something like [EMAIL PROTECTED]).

Erhm?! MMS is *Multimedia* Messaging Service, through which you can
send rich media such as graphic images and ringtones. In contrast, SMS
allows only text.

I can think of a few situations, and have already done it at least
once, some seven years ago. I was on the road and needed to send an
urgent message to someone in Cebu. I knew that if she was at her desk,
she'd have her email client open, and would be able to receive my
message. OTOH, I didn't have to receive any reply and would not likely
be able to anyway because my contact in Cebu didn't have a cell phone.
Now that think about it, she could've replied through my pager but it
really doesn't matter anymore :)
