try timetrex, i've been playing around with it and it prints out barcodes from the accounts you've created. it supports a number of barcode reader but i haven't gotten around to setting it up. good luck

Maybe there's a complete set out there: create barcode from db, print, read off barcode reader, compare with db, result. Anybody with working setup you're using right now?
