The one thing that the use of barcode or magnetic strip can't do is tell you that the person timing in/out using is the actual supposed person. It could be anybody. If you don't have that kind of situation in your area or don't really want to address it, but just to speed up the timing in/out process, then barcode-/magstrip-based id's will do just fine.
