Orly, Bluepoint is a company whose business revolves around open source. Hence it makes good marketing sense for them to support open source as it helps their business. Like all companies, their purpose is to earn money.
I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I run my own company. They're just not like us, which would be classified as an NGO. A non-profit, cause oriented advocacy. But really, PLUG's mission isn't the issue here. The issue is the event. I was actually hoping the event would serve as a venue to discuss such things. I had committed to it, and now I am committed to making it work. It is not by any stretch of the imagination a 'big' event. It's just us, a bunch of guys getting together to talk about, discuss and help promote F/OSS. It's simple. I am not sure how I offended Mike. He is actually an ex officemate and someone I consider a good person, and obviously an active contributor here. I feel quite bad about it, and I will try to get in touch with him. However, the event goes on. I am placing myself responsible for it to either work or go bust. I don't see how it could fail, as I have simple expectations. But if it does, so be it. It will not be for lack of trying.
