Four years ago when I was starting with Linux I signed up online for their download-the-latest service. When I later discovered that Mandriva was not for me I tried to cancel the subscription. There was no place on the web site to cancel and they never responded to numerous e-mails. I literally had to get my bank to issue me a new card number to get the monthly charges to stop. And then they finally responded with an e-mail that I owed them money and they would take me to collections if I did not pay up. They're located in France, which makes them effectively beyond the reach of US law for small issues. Some of us consumers have long memories. Today's exercise is to see if I can figure out package management in OpenSuse 11.1. I think I have all the standard repos enabled, but some very common software is not appearing in the Manage Software GUI. Also I need to figure out what is the equivalent of apt-get, dpkg and aptitude so I can use the command line. Also, I keep reading tidbits that you can use Synaptic with OpenSuse, but I don't know how that would work. _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
