I am here to report that I have been bitten for the fourth time by Gnome 2.8.0. I reformatted and installed OpenSuse 11.2, which uses Gnome 2.8.0. I spent yesterday installing and configuring stuff, rebooting occasionally. This morning I rebooted and when X came up there was no metacity. But this time the Gnome panel did appear. I started metacity from the terminal, so I am functional. OpenSuse installs IceWM as well as the default metacity, so I can try that, or install Xfce4. I spent some time yesterday searching on the OpenSuse forums for answers to other issues and I stumbled across this thread: http://forums.opensuse.org/applications/427153-desktop-wont-load.html I also found quite a few people reporting similar problems on the Ubuntu forums, all with Karmic. Karmic uses Gnome 2.8.0. I'm going to search the Gnome bugtracker next, which I should have done earlier. If I don't find a fix (which I think is unlikely), I'm probably going to reformat and install OpenSuse 11.1. For sure I am not touching any distro-version that uses Gnome 2.8.0. _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
