I was able to successfully build gsmlib-1.6 on my linux box
(kernel 2.4.4, glibc-2.2.3, gcc-2.95.3). I then connected
the Nokia 5110i using the recommended cable to com1. The
command:

gsmctl -b 9600 -d /dev/ttyS0 ALL

fails to access the mobilephone (Ctrl-C regains control).
Gsmsendsms does not work either, nor does any of the gsmlib
utilities.

I tried browsing the Nokia site, http://forum.nokia.com/,
from which SDK-2.0 is available as a free download. It seems
that the SDK provides a software-modem which is used to access
the 5110i, but the website was not very clear on this. One
thing is sure: the program SMS.exe that is provided in source
code (compile using VB-6.0) with the SDK-2.0 works like a charm
on the same hardware setup (so there is nothing wrong with
the 5110i or the cable).

I do not want to use Windows as our GSM sms server, since the
Linux SNMP tools are so much nicer to use (we need the sms
server for network management).

Any suggestions (short of buying a P30,000.00 mobilephone)?
Thanks.

PManalastas.
