The 5110 CAN take logos, but not ringtones. The 6150 can take logos and
ONE ringtone.
But ability to store ringtones and logos does not make a phone "not
dumbass." The 3310 can store SEVEN ringtones, but it's still a dumbass
phone for people more concerned with fluff than functionality. Why?
BECAUSE IT HAS NO GSM MODEM.

I have tried Kannel, but for WAP, not as an SMS gateway. No phone is
better than another at handling traffic -- it's just one phone. But you
should use 5110 if all you want is SMS send/receive. Hint: get the
Gnokii::GSM Perl module, it will make your life much easier (if you're a
JAPH or JAPH-wannabe like me).
If you want to handle large amounts of SMS traffic, you know who to talk
to. They're called Globe and Smart. You really NEED access to their SMS
switch to do large amounts of traffic. Any so-called GSM modem is a mickey
mouse solution.
Last I heard, Globe charged P 1.20 for every access to their SMSC. So if
you charge P 2.00 for whatever service you're making, that still leaves
you with a tidy profit.
