you can use gnokii library instead. 've heard that the gsmlib only supports 
a gsm modem. nokia phones i think don't have the capability of a 
AT-standard type modem. gsmlib needs to talk to a AT modem. nokia phones 
uses a special AT interface, i think they call CIMD, not sure.

gnokii can be found at gnokii.org. i've tested it both on 5110 and 6150, 
both worked. btw, you can also try kannel, if you have access to an sms 
center. ;-)
