Hi Orly,
>>I don't mean to fan more flames regarding Bluepoint, but one of the recent

>>that's owned by one of the PinoyPC members.
An install fest is a great idea. Its always helps to see how another person
approaches a specific problem. Hope you let this discussion thread know so
I can attend.
>>Correct me if I'm wrong. Is Linux training really that expensive nowadays?
>>I'm all for a sense of community, that's why if the PinoyPC installfest +
>>training goes through, I'll volunteer my services for food. =)
>>I just can't get over the 31,000 figure.
Its all relative...
My company decided to port our extisting software products into the Linux
platform five months ago. Since most of our products have been ported and
are ready to be deployed, our programmers, who have to learn to configure
Linux servers **properly**, are now scheduled to attend Linux training.
I started attending Bluepoint three weeks ago...two of our programmers are
scheduled to attend Q-Linux on July 9-13. Two more programmers are waiting
to be scheduled. If there are any other good training courses out there,
please recommend...the broader the perspective the better.
Ten years ago, I probably would have taught myself Linux. Today, we are
simply too busy to waste time...which is why the rates of both Bluepoint and
Q-Linux are reasonable. At least the money spent is going towards
supporting a Linux company.
By the way, if you are interested in teaching our guys at more reasonable
rates then please feel free to contact me: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
*** Is there a Philippine SIG ***
15 years ago in New York, when C++ and object oriented programming were
fairly new concepts, I used to attend what was called Special Interest Group
(SIGS) meetings once a week. Basically, the C++ SIG members got together
once a week to exchange information. Different members, or invited guests
would teach courses related to C++ and object oriented programming. The
membership fee was minimal (40 USD annually) compared to what you learned
(i.e. we had instructors who designed multi-platform C++ compilers teaching
you how to optimize the use of the latest and greatest C++ features at the
time).
Is there such a group here in the Philippines for Linux?
