This sounds suspiciously like an error Sony laptops get when
using mdk 8.1
Unfortunately, the patch floppy in the mdk 8.1 errata page has
not been released for mdk 8.2
What I did was to use urpmi to add the 3 mdk 8.2 cd's as update
media, then I ran urpmi --auto --auto-select to upgrade to
mdk 8.2
