Quoting william villanueva ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): > rpm -q --whatprovides <search file>
Please note that this searches the database of _installed_ packages, only. True story: When developer Sean Perry worked at VA Linux Systems, at one point he was ordered to maintain some RPM packages. As you may know, the RPM format can specify file dependencies (some file specified by full pathspec that must be present before the package is deemed installable). As Sean was attempting to build some RPMs, he kept having recurring difficulty determining what package would provide particular file dependencies. (Like sensible admins, Sean tried not to install software he wasn't likely to use -- unless and until needed.) So, finally he went over to some of the RH fanciers, and explained his problem. "Oh," they said, "we just install everything." -- Cheers, "Java is COBOL 2.0." Rick Moen -- Deirdre Saoirse Moen [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
