Actually, both TeX and LaTeX compile into the "assembly" language
called "dvi" -- device-independent typesetting language :) :)

I second your complaint.  The simple integral

\int_a^b { x \over x^2 + a^2 } dx

is too messy when built-up using MathML.  Why was MathML so badly
designed?  Why didn't they include the TeX people in the MathML group?
