Thank you Mr. Sevilla for your initiative on this.

My perception of desktop linux users may be off the mark, since I don't know 
enough about them yet, but can I assume that?

1. the majority probably access the internet using dial-up connections
2. are probably knowledgeable enough to set-up POP3 on an email client

At least the above describes me. I may be atypical.

In my case, an email based system may be preferrable. I for one would not 
like to tie up my telephone unecessarily which would be the case for a purely 
web based system. Neither would my wife, for obvious reasons :)

But, as I note, I may be atypical and a web-based forum would be far better 
than none.

I would also be happy to share knowledge and assist in manning the forum.
