the _only_ reason i am interested in another list is that it might encourage
other 'rank-and-file' desktop users to shift to linux. a list where the
topics are as mundane as favorite browser or office apps. i imagine that
such a list would offer a psychologically relaxed, we're -all-mortals mindset
kind of list.

but if that is tantamount to duplicating ph-linux-newbie, then it's ok. its
no big deal. maybe i am just too new to the list to realize what it offers.

my apologies if i gave the impression of disconent with the way questions are
answered, or that i prefer "click-and-run".

but this is not the case. i learn from all the posts here. even if they
appear too technical for me, i make a mental note about it so that i would
know where to start if i ever encounter that problem.

even if my xandros box is working perfectly, i dared to dual boot it with
debian woody just to learn the rudiments of debian, to see what xandros
shielded me from. i encountered lots of problems but i have fun solving them.
that is not "click-and-run".

i understand your reasons for opposing another list, and in most points, i
agree with you. but please understand also that the motive for such a list
is just to encourage many other people to get into the fold, not to have an
easy, cheesy way to use linux.

just to save face,
Victor
