The plug-newbie list is already sufficient for new Linux desktop users. I know
that Rick Munoz and you would like to hear a forum where someone will answer
a newbie's query with
"click to <main menu>, then to <submenu> then <app name>, etc..."
instead of
"fire up the console, cd to that <directory>, etc..."
Don't despair. The plug-newbies mailing list is already sufficient for that.
Making another separate mailing list is a waste of time and effort.
I sense your discontent with the way newbie questions are answered. The
experts who answer newbie questions in the newbie mailing list can be
depended to answer newbie questions in a simple manner using the simple
"click-and-run" terminology that you want whenever applicable.
If you feel that the discussions in the newbie list seems complex, it's
because the questions asked are quite advanced and requires complex answers.
I am an intermediate Linux user, and I ocassionally post newbie questions to
the newbie lists to ask for help, and I find the responses very useful.
I was also a newbie before, and I find the discussions in the newbie lists
helpful. No question is too stupid or too simple, as long as it is asked in
the newbie lists. Even if I am an intermediate user, I do ask simple and
stupid questions in the newbie lists from time to time.
To recap, the plug-newbie lists is sufficient for its purpose of serving
newbies. There is no compelling reason to create another list. If we get a
traffic of more than a 100 mails a day discussing the Gimp, then that's the
only time a separate Gimp discussion list needs to be created.
