SuSE Linux Enterprise Server runs Oracle and is properly certified just fine. I have personally participated in two major enterpise deployments using this and can say that the customers were pleased. From what I can see, the prices on SuSE's website are lower than the yearly US$2.5k you quote. If you're not willing to pay anything at all, you can run Oracle on nearly any Linux distro without any support from either Oracle or the distro vendor. This is doable, but you won't find much help from Metalink if you run into problems. In my experience, this is not something you want to be without in an enterprise deployment! By the way, speaking of Red Hat Advanced Server, what's up with Touch Solutions? They've been harassing one of our major customers, saying that they're due "license fees". Last time I checked, almost everything in RHAS is under some open source/free software license of one shape or another, including Piranha (surprise, surprise, it's GPLed!). Our customer does not want to buy official support for every deployment, and so are resisting paying through the nose. Last time I checked attempting to impose additional restrictions on GPLed software was a violation of the license. -- Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [EMAIL PROTECTED] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Official Website: http://plug.linux.org.ph Searchable Archives: http://marc.free.net.ph .
