inputs of data is not considered for me as another line... what i mean about
one liner is the main answer or main line to the question.....

for example:

write a program in c or pascal to find the value of z where z = x ^ y and
the given inputs are x and y...

if a contestant uses a brute-force algorithm, this is his/her code with a
little knowledge in math:

z = 1

for loop from 1 to y

    z = z * x

next loop

this will make a four-liner code

but if a contestant is knowledgeable in math... this is his/her one-liner
code:

z = exp(y * ln ( x ) )

now that is what i mean about a one liner code

believe me doc... im a former electrical engineering student (upto 4th year
only)... those kind of problems (problem A and E) are a properties of a
*RIGHT* triangle and it is very obvious for me as well as to other
math-oriented people... those problems are easy for engineering and math
students because they will simply draw all posible right triangles and find
the unknown variables.... that is why you need c^2 = a^2 + b^2 to start with
plus other well known formulas like circumference of a circle for example,
other well known properties and other well known identities... engineering
and math students are fully aware of this... in fact, they solve much more
complex problems much complex to problem A and E which requires calculus and
other advance math.....

ive been into this several times (but not in programming contest because
during my time, there are no programming contest) but in a classroom where
there are prelim, midterm, pre-final and final exams..... im always came
late between 10 to 20 minutes in an hour exam but finish first or second and
leave the room early from my other classmates..... luckily i got a higher
results in my math subjects...

if you understand the problem, you will have the same results.....

recall or not, if you have the basic or common formula in your mind.. you
can still derive the other formula... that is why c^2 = a^2 + b^2
revolutionize the human race... this simple formula derive so many other
well known formulas....

because what i believe, you forgot the other theorems, the other identities,
etc etc...

sorry doc, like what i said with sacha, i already have my own priorities....
i already reach what you called popular or campus-figure and i already
graduated from that... i want to stay in a low profile manner... you havent
wondered why i use fooler here instead of my real name? because i want to
stay as anonymous as possible...

honestly, when you gave it to me the acm problems in the afternoon, i
emailed you back and i said unto you that i will email you back because i
will read this tonight and i will give you a comment tommorow... when i saw
problem A and E, i know this is a property of a right triangle... i find my
old geometry and trigonometry books to find the right theorems and
identities for this because im already too *RUSTY* with my math skills and
there you are i solve it...

during my engineering years.... i derive so many formulas... like for
example... give me a year and ill give you the first day of that year betwen
monday to sunday... both for julian and gregorian calendars.... given a
musical notes table of frequency, i derive a formula for a given note and
give you what is the frequency of that note and so many more... those two
what i said is what i recall right now but there are lots more and i cant
even remember...i even desparate when i derive that formula from my own
scratch and tell to my friends and told me that your formula is already
derived by a famous mathematician way back 14th, 15th, etc century years...
same true with my other close friends... my other friend is a genius in the
field of math and electronics.. he derives so many circuit.. unfortunately
for him just like me, those circuits are already in the patented form....
what if we are born first with them?

fooler.
