As I mentioned in another message, the UA&P IT labs are more or less MS-centric, although plans are underway to slowly shift to open source technologies. As the contest can be considered a production environment, it is not a good idea to shift technologies and have haphazardly-trained admins manning the system. All of the admins are NT-trained, so switching to Linux just for the contest is generally not a good idea.
