Michael, I don't know how Mint does things so my thoughts might not apply. This looks like a local, LAN, issue. Do you have an /etc/hosts file or does your router hand out local IP addresses via dhcpd? Can you ping the printer's IP address or hostname? Do you have an /etc/resolv.conf file?
