I did a quick bit of research and found someone that says that it should
prevent the screensaver *when the cursor is over a playing video*. So,
making the video full screen or placing your cursor over the video while it
is playing, should do the trick.

If you are already doing this, then you'll need to use the alternatives you
found, or use something like 'caffeine' to at least make it easier. If you
are like me and just habitually move the cursor out of the video area, then
this may be what you need to get the results you want.
