AFAIK - this in now the duty of window manager (KDE/GNOME) and the
application-->windowManager communication works through DBUS.
It works pretty reliably for me in vanilla ubuntu 20.04 and other
distros with working DBUS.
I am not sure what exactly is zubuntu, and could not be bothered to
look it up - perhaps switching to KDE/GNOME would fix that for you.
I think he means Xubuntu, which many pronounce 'zubuntu.'
As for the window manager and desktop environment, yes, I think it is
part of Xubuntu and its associated utilities.
Does Xubuntu uses KDE or Gnome?
The default window manager for Xubuntu is Xfce. wmctrl -m returns Name:
Xfwm4.
If not, whatever it uses, does it talk DBUS for settings and config?
If not, then the media player cannot stop the lock screen dynamically.
That's what I meant to imply.
Ut is not matter of setting, but communication - the media apps telling DE
not to lock while it is displaying stuff.
Xfce is billed as a lightweight window manager, which works fine for me.
Maybe that's one of the jettisoned pieces of cargo making it light.
