Ben, I think you need a MusicIP reg number in order to activate the API option. I know that MusicIP have been messing around recently with what is in the free and paid for versions and I am not sure what the requirements are now to get the reg number, but I believe you can request a trial account without any need to pay anything, at least for 30 days. Should be a link on their website somewhere though this is not the easiest site to navigate I find.
Having said that, I do have a lifetime account myself and have had several goes at using MusicIP in the past year or so but always give it up when I find it messes with my system too much. I am running Linux (ubuntu) and find it just a little too unpolished.
