I agree but keep your files on the NAS which is what even an old NAS is very good at. You install piCorePlayer on a Pi and mount your NAS via either CIFS or NFS. Then you enable LMS and point it at the mounted drive. This approach gets round all the incompatibility issues of your NAS but keeps it doing what it does best.
