Well I feel I must come to the defence of MIP here since, like Michael,
I have run it with almost no issues for more that 2 years, through
several versions of MIP and multiple iterations of SS (and now SC).  I
have run it on Windows, on Linux, both headless and with the GUI and,
although it is not exactly trivial to get it set up, it runs very
reliably.

In my experience it works exactly as advertised. Of course YMMV and I'm
sure you've had major frustrations with it to get you to this point and
you have my sympathy for that.  Not sure if I can help you resolve it
since I am now full time on ubuntu but I can try.
