Did you try the Archers item ? There is a bit difference in network
handling between Listen Again and live programs.

Only if the problem is your modem link is less than 56kbit/sec and is
operating at the next speed down which is about 33kbits/sec. What is
the actual speed of your connection not the modem rating ?

What you imply is that the server decode and re-encode the streams to a
lower rate on the fly. I haven't see that. I believe the streams are
encoded (about 40kbit/sec) and it is the TCP windows (RWIN) which is
being adjusted.

As long as the basic modem speed can supply 40kbit/sec.

I have heard of similar symptoms from users (99% windows) who have
either satellite links (long delays, large RWIN) or users who have
tweaked TCP paramters to maximise download (again RWIN change) but this
affects streams which are time sensitive.

No and yes. No Automatic bit rate adjustemnet but I don't believe that
is happening anyway - it is transmission adjustments that is happening
with RealPlayer. Buffer size and Buffer Threshold will affect RWIN.
Also the "Bandwidth" option can be used to tell the BBC server the
speed of your connections.
