The WOL packet is a frame composed of a magic cookie and a MAC address.
You can send it to a machine via it's IP address, and it should
recognize itself and wake-up. Eg. wol --mac 00:01:02:03:04:05 --ip
192.168.1.15
You can send it to all machines via the network's broadcast address,
and none but one should recognize itself. Eg. wol --mac
00:01:02:03:04:05 --ip 192.168.1.255
This is called SDB in the 'wikipedia page on WOL'
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-LAN).
You have to pay attention that a firewall will not get in the way.
