I can see how they would want to go down that route if it meant using the same system for iOS, Android, PC and OSX given the current dogs dinner of proprietary protocols. By the sound of it listen again has now permanently gone as a firmware option for 90% of standalone internet radios and streamers. Long term the only options for getting LA on your hi-fi are likely to be: - iPlayer on your PC and hard wire audio cable from sound card to hi-fi - Bluetooth streaming from PC / phone / tablet (yuck!) - Some sort of Wi-fi streaming from a PC (Chromecast, DLNA?) - LMS and a player of some sort LMS obviously wins hands down on all fronts, not least the ability to sync players. It just needs a continuing group of community minded and experienced developers such as your good self. Sounds like you and/or Triode need to train up an apprentice! Any volunteers?
