First, this is not a Max2play or Odroid problem, they should work without a setup or port forwarding. Just to be sure, you probably have a private VPN server or paid VPN service to connect with your routers VPN client, do you? You then have to do the settings on your routers corresponding type(PPTP, OpenVpn etc..), start Vpn client and make the connection between remote Vpn Server and client. That's it in basics.
